Meet Members Clint and Kirstin Genthner   Genthners

What brought you to Trinity?  Clint’s first call after finishing his degree in teaching at Concordia University in Ann Arbor was to St. Peter in Eastpointe, MI, where he taught third and fourth grades for three years. We didn’t really like the busy-ness of the city, and we wanted a church and school that felt more like a family. We were so happy that Miss Olhoff called Clint and extended a one-year contract for him to teach first grade in 1999, and we have loved every one of our 21 years here. When we came, Lauren enrolled in preschool and Jonah was just a baby. Now our youngest, Jared, has just graduated from eighth grade at Trinity.

What groups or activities have you been involved in since becoming members?  Clint has taught at Trinity Lutheran School for 21 years, and he has taught every grade from kindergarten to eighth grade. Right now he teaches fifth and sixth, along with seventh and eighth grade science, which is a great fit for him. In our time at Trinity, Clint has also served as Physical Properties chairperson, and Kirstin has served on church council. Kirstin worked at the Trinity Child Care for two years before she completed her teaching degree. We have both helped with Sunday School and VBS, leading VBS one memorable summer when our youngest, Jared, was born in the middle of VBS week! Our family has also served in the nursery; assisted worship as acolytes, communion assistant, and reader; helped with various maintenance projects; raised our voices in the adult choir and other special music ensembles; and participated in numerous small group Bible studies. We have greatly enjoyed the close friendships we fostered and nourished by spending time with our church family members.

What has meant the most to you being part of the ministries at Trinity?  For our family, the most valuable part of our membership at Trinity has been the life of faith that was fostered and encouraged at Trinity school. We have been so blessed that Lauren, Jonah, and Jared all received a firm foundation in their faith at Trinity—one that built upon the foundation we had already created and supported at home. The older two were confirmed at Trinity, Jared was baptized (and will be confirmed soon) at Trinity, and Lauren was married at Trinity. Our children—and our family—have been immeasurably blessed by our time here, and we so happy to be part of this ministry. We cannot wait to see what God has in store for our family and our church family.
